Get Certified!
At Scuba Brothers, getting certified to Scuba Dive is easy!
We offer several different options to get you there. Just
follow the steps below and you are on your way!
How long does it take?

The class usually takes between 7-10 hours of classroom/academic work, 10-14 hours of pool
work and about 6-8 hours of checkout dives. These are generalizations and the important thing
to remember it that learning to dive is not a race. We will not rush any student, because we
believe that people learn best and retain whats taught when they are comfortable and relaxed.

Class Schedule

We've adjusted our classes to make it even more convenient for you to get certified. Classes
generally start every other Saturday and take two weekends to complete.

To get certified you must complete three parts; Academic, Confined Water (pool) and Open
Water Checkout dives.

Academic - The academic portion can be completed online, at home with a DVD course or in a
traditional classroom setting. If you are interested in completing the academic course online,
then click
here. If you want to complete the classroom session with a DVD at home course,
then pick up your course kit at our shop. If you want to do a traditional classroom session, then
check out the available dates on our training calendar.

Confined Water (Pool Sessions) - You can start the confined water either concurrently with
your academic portion or after you've finished the academics. In other words, you don't have
to finish the academics before you start the pool work, but you will need to finish both the
academics and the pool work before you can begin your open water checkout dives. The
confined water sessions are generally taught every other weekend in two sessions. Generally,
most people need both sessions to cover all of the skills. Sessions start at 10:00 am on
Saturday and 1:00 pm on Sunday. You will need a swimsuit, mask and snorkel. We have a
shower and changing area in the store, so you might want to bring a towel. We
usually finish
around 5:00 pm on both days.

Open Water Checkout Dives  The second weekend is the open water portion and the written
test. We'll meet at the shop at 9:30 am. You will need fins and a weight belt in addition tot he
mask and snorkel from confined water. You will take your test and pick up your gear. Your test
will be graded immediately and you'll know the result. Then we'll go to the lake for our first day
of checkout dives in open water. You'll hold on to your gear and meet back at the lake the next
day (Sunday) for the second set of checkout dives. After the Sunday dives, everyone will turn
in any gear and come back to the shop to pick up your temporary cards. If you did not score a
75% or better on the written test, we'll do a review and you'll get to take the test again.
Permanent cards generally take about one to two weeks to come in.

Congratulations! You are now a fully certified Open Water Scuba Diver. You join a worldwide
brotherhood of adventurers that explore the waters of our world. Welcome to the family!
"When you finally see what goes on underwater, you
realize that you've been missing the whole point of the
ocean. Staying on the surface all the time is like going
to the circus and staring at the outside of the tent."
